Cm-8.30.12  1st Cor. 1. 1-9  Ps. 145. 2-3, 5-6, 6-7  Mt. 24. 52-51

Cosmic connection:  Clear gray skies, quiet

Question of the day: How have I experienced this call to holiness recently?

Paul’s introductions in his letters have a format

He wishes the listeners to be full of grace and peace,

Then he is full of gratitude because he knows the listeners will be  firm in the faith, and  not cease  until the Lord’s second coming the ultimate increase.

Paul has an intimate relationship with his disciples, – no doormat.

‘I will praise your name forever Lord.”

Great is our God and worthy of all praise.

They speak of o\your glorious splendor and your wonderful works, all our days,

As we care for your creation, and endeavor to live in one accord.

Stay awake! Be vigilant and alert

Live not in yesterday or tomorrow, but in this moment, the now.

Live humbly not as the cat’s meow,

We never know when the Master will come remain awake, alive and not inert.

Remain awake, you never know when

The son of man will come again.

Cm-8.29.12  2nd Thes. 3. 6-10, 16-18  Ps. 128. 1-2. 4-5  Mk. 6. 17-29

Cosmic connection dark cloudless skies, Venus a-shining

Question of the day: What evil do I see that requires my witness?

John the Baptist, martyr and passion,

Preached a baptism of repentance,

Until King Herod arrested him because John spoke out against Herod’s adultery, – a long sentence.

Salome asked for his head on a platter and she got it gave it to her mother, dispassionate.

Those who fear Lord are made holy and happy,

They shall eat of the fruit of their labor,

Share to take care of their neighbor,

May we see prosperity in our houses, even a bit wacky?

The gospel is the entire account of how John came to his death,

A martyrdom not chosen but of the Lord’s doing,

Not one many would like to be viewing,

Good News because of his total surrender to the Lord until his last breath.

‘Blessed are those who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness,’

Heaven is their Kindom, seeking action for the poor without idleness.

Cm-8.28.12  2nd Thes. 2. 1-3A, 14-17  Ps. 96. 10, 11-12, 13  Mt. 23. 23-26

Cosmic connection: dark early morning skies, quiet chilly, Venus a-glowing

Question of the day: What in my life is not what Jesus might want it to be?

Now we celebrate Augustine’s feast,

He was the one Monica prayed for his conversion,

He was way off with the prophet Mani and his thoughts needed inversion,

Paul asks us to stand firm in the faith keep traditions

Augustine even became a bishop a high priest

“The Lord comes to judge the earth”

The Lord is the power over all the earth He has made firm,

Help us to pray this day for those in the hurricane’s path throughout its term,

The Lord will rule all with equity and constancy giving new birth.

Jesus is still wrestling with the lack of integrity found in the Pharisees,

He accuses them of neglecting judgment mercy and fidelity,

Accusation of cleaning the outside of things and not the inside no pedigree,

Blind guides! Woe to you.   Help me to see. Let me live with compassion and empathy.

The word of God is living and effective,

Able to discern the reflections and thoughts of the heart, not selective.

Cm-8.27.12  2ND Thes. 1.15, 11-12  Ps. 96. 1-2a, 2B-3, 4-5  Mt. 23. 13-22

Cosmic connection:  Blue sunny clear skies

Question of the day:  What blind spots keep me from understanding and evaluating things as Jesus would?

Monica was such a good mother-she became the patroness of mothers.

She converted her husband and in time her son.

Paul’s introduction to the Thessalonians, he offers himself as a model for those who have just begun.

With that accomplishment she surrendered and dies as any other.

The Psalm is one we used to use to introduce our day in the hour of Matins,

“Happy are those who fear the Lord, who walk in his ways”

Those who do so shall prosper eating of the fruit of your labors every day,

Remembering a different time when we were praying in Latin.

The Gospel treats the Pharisees who heap heavy burdens upon themselves and others.

Too many laws to obey,

Accused of being blind, swearing by the profane and not the sacred, Jesus says,

Help me, O Lord, not to be blind to that which is Pharisaic-cal in me and my sisters and brothers.

My sheep hear my voice

I, the Lord, know them for they have been my choice

Cm-8.26.12  Jos. 24.1-2A, 15-17  Ps. 34. 2-3, 16-17, 18-19, 20-21  Eph. 5. 21-32  Jn. 6. 6—69

Cosmic connection: gray foggy summer time skies a few small peepers

Question of the day: What loving practices can I do this week to build community with others?

The readings today ask us to take a stand,

There are clear paths to deciding a preference,

Each reading draws a different reference,

By meditation we can make our choices and understand.

Joshua asks us to decide whom we shall serve?

The Psalm speaks of the Lord’s preference for supporting the just.

Desiring to help the poor and oppressed becomes a must.

In the Gospel the disciples must decide if they wish to continue to follow Jesus without swerve.

Some disciples decide to go home back to their former lives,

Peter is put on the spot; and makes a proclamation of his faith:

“To whom shall we go you have the words of eternal life we have come to believe: You are the Holy One of God.” Forget all that about subordination of wives

“Your words are Spirit and life,

You have the words of everlasting life.”

Cm-8.25.12  Ezekiel 43. 1-7  Ps. 85. 9AB& 10, 11-12, 13-14  Mt. 23. 1-12

Cosmic connection:  dark chilly skies, Venus a-glowing

Question of the day: Which of my practices might not fit so well with my preaching?

Wowie Ezekiel envisions glory: brilliant radiant glory

He is taken up in the spirit to the place of the heavenly temple

A place where the saints and angels assemble,

Not only is that he taken inside to see where God’s throne shall be the story.

There God will dwell among his people forever, proclaiming peace.

Our world is so opposite of this: violence and shootings rather than

Kindness and truth kissing and justice prevailing

The Lord will yield his benefits land yielding its increase.

The Pharisees are criticized by Jesus: seeking honor and high places,

Laying heavy burdens on the people’s shoulders,

Leading them to be weak and frail, not bolder,

Jesus is the one Master others disgracing.

“You have but one Father in heaven, in glory,

And but one master, the Christ—the short story.

Cm-8.24.12  Rev.21.9B-14  Ps. 145. 10-11, 12-13, 17-18  Jn. 1. 45-51

Cosmic connection: chilly dark skies, Venus bright and shiny.

Question of the day; Whose invitation to draw closer to Jesus changed my life?

A vision of a descending city from heaven above

Lots of angels at the twelve gates, Bartholomew one of the twelve an enigma,

A man who enjoyed the shade of a fig tree,

Philip invites this man to ‘come and see,

The mystery of this man was found in his lack of guile and duplicity admitting of.

“Your friends tell. O Lord, of the glorious splendor of your Kingdom”- sustained,

Let all your works give you thanks, O Lord,

Help us to converse in dialogue about the glory of your Kingdom, thrive,

Let our curiosity embrace the meaning of glory: the human fully alive,

The kingdom the realm of our Lord God who claims the entire domain

Bartholomew quickly makes his proclamation of faith:

Do you believe because I foresaw you at the fig tree?

Things greater than this you shall see, for free,

This meeting with Jesus mysterious wraith.

Rabbi, you are the Son of God

His virtue of no duplicity or guile we embrace and applaud.
